Bushel And A Peck Chippewa Falls Accident; More than two dozen people were injured, including three critically, after a wagon overturned at an apple orchard in Wisconsin, authorities reported. The incident occurred Wednesday morning at Bushel and a Peck Apple Orchard in Chippewa Falls, where elementary school children, parents, and chaperones were on a field trip.

According to Chippewa County Sheriff Travis Hakes, a tractor was pulling two wagons at a low speed when one of the wagons began to lose control while descending a hill, ultimately overturning. This led to injuries among both children and adults, making for a traumatic day for many involved.

Emergency personnel were dispatched promptly for what was described as a “tractor accident involving two hay wagons.” Chippewa Fire District Deputy Chief Cory Jeffers indicated that the fire department activated its mass casualty protocol to coordinate a response with outside agencies. A helicopter from the Mayo Clinic was also deployed to assist with the situation.

In total, 25 individuals were transported from the scene: one by helicopter, 22 by ambulance, and others in personal vehicles. Sheriff Hakes noted that three people sustained life-threatening injuries, while five others suffered serious injuries. Fortunately, all patients are reported to be in stable condition, with some being treated at Marshfield Medical Center-Eau Claire.

Authorities have not released additional details about the victims, including the number of children involved. Sheriff Hakes described the incident as “heart-wrenching,” echoing the fears of parents everywhere. He personally attended the scene to help calm the children and reunite them with their families.

The children involved were from St. Mark Lutheran School in Eau Claire. Principal Peter Micheel expressed gratitude for the community’s support during this challenging time, emphasizing a commitment to care and trust in divine guidance. As of now, the scene has been cleared, and all children have been safely reunited with their caregivers. ABC News has reached out to the orchard for further comments. Chippewa Falls is located about 12 miles northeast of Eau Claire.
